Maintaining a balanced budget is not only recommended, it is truly mandatory. How we utilize our money month to month will often mean the difference between paying all the bills on time, and having to pay late fees and/or extra charges. There are a few things you have to keep in mind when keeping up with your budget, so that when you do make decisions that will effect your financial situations, you can think ahead more, thus saving yourself a long run headache.
The first thing, remember that pleasures come AFTER the bills are paid. For example, it is not very effective money management to splurge by eating out at your favorite expensive restaurant two days before the insurance payment is due, especially if you will not have enough money to cover both. Make sure that you have your bills paid, or at least that the money is sitting in your bank account, in advance, like, probably a week in advance at least, before you use extra money to buy treats like eating out, or other things you want to buy.
You see, this will save you from the awful problem of going to pay the bill, and realizing your $50 short! This is an awful feeling that, while no one should have to have it, many people do, and I hope you realize that running short of cash to pay bills with is something that if done enough, can really take its toll on you, not only in terms of stress, but in financial terms.
Many people have the potential to pay all their bills on time, but they do not because they dont have the money handling skills, or the self control that they need to make the money last. They cant help themselves, because they need to impulse buy, or eat out so often, and they end up shooting themselves in the foot, financially speaking. A cash advance should certainly not be used for these impulse purchases!
You see, the key to maintaining a balanced budget lies not only in your ability to manage money, but in your ability to control your impulse spending, and if you do have an impulse spending problem, than you know exactly how hard it is to control! It is so easy to spend $5 here, 10 extra dollars there, before you know it, you’ve spent your water bill allowance, and you now have to borrow money from your mother in law to pay water. She, of course, is going to expect it back next paycheck, but the only problem is, your entire next paycheck needs to go to the mortgage payment!
You can see how not controlling your budget can kill your finances, and while you actually might make enough to pay for everything, in the long run, its not going to matter unless you start balancing your budget today, and stop spending your hard earned dollars on things that you don't need. Seriously, save impulse buying for when you get rich. You can turn your entire financial situation around with just a little self control, exercised at the right times.
